Panasonic CX-491 Retroreflective Sensor

The Panasonic CX-491 Retroreflective Sensor  (CX491, UCX491), with part number UCX491, is a compact, high-performance retroreflective photoelectric sensor, optimized for detecting opaque, translucent, or specular objects at distances up to 3 meters when used with the RF-230 reflector. It achieves a repeatability of 0.5 mm (perpendicular to the sensing axis), ensuring precise and consistent detection.

Operating on 12–24 VDC, the sensor features an NPN open-collector output (100 mA max sink current), with switchable Light-ON or Dark-ON operation and built-in short-circuit protection. Its fast 1 ms response time makes it ideal for dynamic applications.

An orange LED indicates output status, while a green LED confirms stable sensing. It includes a continuously variable sensitivity adjuster and an automatic interference prevention function, enabling reliable use even with multiple units installed close together.

Built for industrial durability, the CX-491 offers IP67 protection, vibration and shock resistance, and operates in temperatures from –25°C to +55°C. Its rugged PBT housing and 2-meter cabtyre cable ensure dependable field performance.
